Nothing epitomizes the Great Plains like the American Bison. Although images of bison have appeared on our flags, coins and logos for years they were once hunted to near extinction in the 1870’s. Prior to the 1800’s tens of millions of bison roamed the Plains. Now only small herds exist scattered across public and private lands in North America.
